Teeth Vs. Soda | Shinagawa Dental Blog

Teeth Vs. Soda

Can’t live without drinking soda or soft drinks?

Well, you should start thinking about living without them as much as you can if you love your teeth and overall health.

Soda contains bacteria-carrying sugar that can potentially damage your teeth. More so, even sugar-free soda contains its own acid that can cause hard to your teeth, too.

Drinking high-sugar soft drinks are associated with diabetes, weight gain, and obesity. That’s another big reason for you to drink sodas in moderation if you cannot get rid of it totally.

Here are some Do’s and Don’t to observe when it comes to soda and your teeth:

Do’s

  • Drink a lot of water
  • Drink soda in moderation
  • Use a straw when you drink soda to keep sugar away from your teeth
  • Thoroughly rinse your mouth with water right after drinking soda
  • Make sure you have a regular dental cleaning

Don’ts

  • Never drink soda before sleeping
  • Don’t make soft drinks an alternative drink during your meals
  • Don’t sip for a long stretch of time
  • Don’t brush your teeth right away after drinking soda. Wait at least 30 minutes before doing so.

Soft drinks are understandably quite popular however, drinking them is not the best choice for your oral and general health. For some who can’t resist sodas, the least you can do is take them in moderation.

More importantly, never forget to take care of your teeth in the process. Shinagawa Orthodontics can help you with that. Book your FREE consultation now and call our Patient Care Lines.

Day Time Skin Care Routine | Shinagawa Aesthetics Blog

The 1, 2, 3’s and A, B, C’s of Skin Care Routine, Part 1: Daytime

Here’s a two-part weekly read about the ideal skin regimen you have for day and night.

Keeping heaps of skin care products and religiously applying them day and night requires commitment. Now we ask, does it matter in what and when we apply all these products to maintain healthy skin?

Applying skin care product in the proper order ensures that the skin receives the full benefits of each product. That is why sequence matters. The skin’s job is to keep things out, and most if not all of the skin care products need to be absorbed. All those ingredients will be beneficial for your skin. No matter how perfectly formulated and perfectly applied a product is, but only a small amount of the key ingredients can penetrate the skin.

The rule of thumb to swear by your heart is to apply the products with the thinnest consistency to thickest, from liquid to oil. Another, apply first the product with ingredients that are most important to penetrate the skin like antioxidants and serums then finish with the products that need to sit on top of it as your moisturizer.

Your Daytime Regimen
Starting your day with the right skin regimen is all about protection. From the sun, pollution and harmful elements. Leaving your peeling, healing, and correcting products especially with retinol at night.

Step 1: Cleanser

Splash your face with warm water then a gentle cleanser designed and suitable for your skin type.

ALWAYS pat dry, not wipe.

Step 2: Toner

Who’s guilty of skipping the toners? This is partly because there’s a lingering assumption are harsh and can irritate the skin. But that’s not the case anymore. The new breed of toners serves multiple purposes. It acts as a delivery system of antioxidants, vitamin B derivatives and even toning acid. Each type of toner has its purpose. It’s important to use the right kind for the right purpose and skin type.

Step 3: Eye Cream

When you enter your 20’s, it is best to start applying eye cream twice a day. For best result, consistency is the key. Regular use of eye cream over time will keep the eyelid skin elastic. It can also improve and prevent against fine lines or collagen loss. Nothing is magic. Results do not occur overnight. Don’t forget your sunglasses which also aids in protecting against UV-light damage not just for the eyes but the surrounding corners of the eyes from squinting.

Step 4: Moisturizer

Everybody needs a moisturizer. Even if the skin type is oily. It is best to apply moisturizer while the skin is still damp, so the sooner you go through applying your serum and treatment, the sooner you’re able to lock in the much-needed hydration with your moisturizer.

If you’re using an acne spot treatment, you may want to skip those areas when applying your moisturizer to make sure the ingredients in it won’t interfere with the active ingredients in your spot treatment.

Step 5: Sunscreen

The last step in your daytime regimen is Sunscreen. Recommended to be applied after the moisturizer. Sunscreen with zinc is safe. Effective and provides the broadest protection against UVA and UVB rays.

There are other products available in the market where the moisturizer and sunscreen are already combined. It not just save you more time but your budget too. Other sunscreens come with tint that can be good for your make up base or even skip your foundation.

Effective Tips For Preventing Plaque | Shinagawa Dental Blog

Effective Tips For Preventing Plaque

Preventing plaque is something that you should be mindful of when it comes to taking care of your oral health.

Dental plaque is a mass of bacteria that naturally grows on surfaces within the mouth that can lead to forming tartar.

Cavities and gum disease are caused by plaque that’s why it’s that important for you to prevent having it in the first place.

Here are some key tips to prevent plaque:

  1. Avoid Sugary Food – If you have a sweet tooth, you might as well start moderating that. That means you should start avoiding sodas and candies as they cause sugar to stick to your teeth.

As sugar lingers in your mouth, bacteria becomes plaque, turns into acid and damages your teeth in the process. With this, it’s time to resist your sweet tooth!

  1. Eat More Fruits and Veggies – Eating various fruits and vegetables helps you keep the plaque away. Apples, carrots, cucumbers, and vegetables are all beneficial to you.
  2. Brush Regularly – Brushing your teeth at least thrice a day properly with toothpaste that contains fluoride keeps your mouth healthy and away from the plaque.
  3. Floss Daily – Plaque normally hides in between teeth that’s why it is that important to floss every day. Flossing is an effective way to get rid of plaque around teeth at the gum line. Flossing behind you molars will get to areas that are hard to reach.
  4. Regularly Visit A Dentist – The best solution to keep your oral health in check is to regularly visit a dentist. When plaque hardens and turns to tartar, the treatment is expected to be harder. That’s why scheduling a dental checkup at least twice a year, or as recommended, is that essential.

Regular visits significantly reduce the chances of getting cavities or losing your teeth.
