    A Healthy Start

    You are what you eat.

A quote that is popularly associated with a person reflecting what they eat on a daily basis. Such a quote originated from the French lawyer, Anthelme Brillat-Savarin and only later did it find its way into the

English language. They all meant the same thing to this day however; the food that a person eats, reflects their state of health.

Simply put, when we eat “junk food”, we are at risk of being unhealthy, and when we eat nutritious foods, we are more likely to be healthy.

Eating healthily does not come easily, especially when there are so many common meals and snacks that we enjoy that can be considered unhealthy in its components. The transition from eating what we’re used to, to eating healthily can be a scary thought to most people. After all, we find comfort in eating the food that we enjoy.

Eating healthily has at least been made easier due to the pandemic. It has been a trend to become healthier in order to avoid disease, and one of the best ways to do that is to cook for ourselves. Knowing the ingredients we put in, helps make sure we are using healthy and nutritious ingredients. Additionally, cooking ourselves minimizes the contact we have with potentially harmful bacteria.

The realization of people to eat healthier has resulted in a healthier lifestyle, and also realized the value of cooking the meal themselves, instead of going out to eat. While it may be true that people have taken up healthier eating habits, there are still people that struggle with the transition, due to the varying opinions on “what is the healthiest way to eat”, as well as different online blogs and articles that may confuse you on what you should eat.

This does not make it easy in finding the best way to eat healthily.

It really shouldn’t be complicated despite how tough it sounds to find the best way to eat healthy. Food is something that is meant to fuel our body, so instead of counting calories, we should really be looking for the nutrients that our body needs in order to function optimally.

To help you start your healthy diet, we have prepared a few suggestions:

Grocery Shopping – Stock your kitchen with healthy food, this will make improve the chances of making healthier meals and snacks at home

Start slow – It’s about progress, it’s not as simple as having a healthy diet on day one but about going through a system you’re comfortable with.

Stay hydrated – Hydration is a big part of a healthy diet, and drinking water is the best way to stay hydrated compared to sugary drinks and juices.

Balance your diet – Remember to include whole foods like vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and sources of protein in your meals.

While it may be difficult to begin, it becomes easier once we start, especially when we think about the benefits of maintaining healthy eating habits.

It is definitely achievable to start and maintain a healthy and balanced diet, and definitely highly encouraged. Not only does food we eat help our body work optimally, but it also protects it from potential disease.
