You’ve probably heard all the myths there are when it comes to protecting your eyes. From being scolded for using too much phones to dropping “gata” or coconut milk when you have sore eyes, we practically grew up hearing these old wives’ tales.

Though, are there really basis for these beliefs? We’ve scurried down the most common beliefs when it comes to our eyesight.

    1. Don’t wash your face or eyes after using gadgets.

Back in the 90’s and 00’s when the popularity of mobile phones, laptops, and gadgets in particular started to soar in the country, we see a LOT of people glued on their phones or their devices.

Videogames were all the rage for kids, young adults were in their mobile phones every day. And to ensure that you will not strain your eyes after, you were told by your lola or your mom to not wash your face right away.

Although too much screen time can really cause eye strain, there is no study that can correlate eye damage to washing your eyes. Washing your face and eyes can actually help as it can be soothing and remove any possible irritants in your eyes.

    1. Using “Calamansi Mixture” to cure Eye Infections

A common belief is to use calamansi everywhere. We strongly believe that acidity is always equal to disinfection and whitening. Well, yes, technically, calamansi is one of the greatest natural disinfection remedies for your home; never for your eyes.

When you put calamansi on your eye infections, you’re already putting acid to it and that by itself is already damaging, not to add, it can be really painful. When you have eye infections, the best option is always to check with your doctor so you would get the right medications and treatment that you need.
