Preventing Skin Problems
Skin problems vary greatly in symptoms and severity. They can be temporary or permanent and may be painless or painful. Some have situational causes, while others may be genetic. Some skin conditions are minor, and others can even be life-threatening.
Still, there are simple ways for you to prevent and fight off basic skin problems.
These proven and effective tips can help you prevent skin problems that might occur.
- Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and water every day
- Use moisturizer
- Drink plenty of water
- Avoid contact with harsh chemicals or other irritants
- Avoid environmental and dietary allergens
- Sleep for at least seven hours each night
- Avoid very hot baths and showers. If your skin is dry, don’t use bubble baths. Moisturizing soaps may help. Afterward, use a standard skin lotion, but don’t put lotions between toes. The extra moisture there can encourage fungus to grow.
- Prevent dry skin. Scratching dry or itchy skin can open it up and allow an infection to set in. Moisturize your skin to prevent chapping, especially in cold or windy weather.
While minor skin problems can be prevented and treated with an effective regimen, it’s always best to consult a dermatologist if you feel you have an alarming skin problem.
One of the most important things in skincare is making sure you regularly consult a dermatologist. If you are not able to solve a skin problem on your own, our dermatologists are experts in that aspect.
