PresbyMAX

PresbyMAX is a minimally invasive laser eye surgery procedure that treats presbyopia (also known as ‘reading vision problems’). This enhances not only a patient’s distance and near visual acuity but also the range of clear vision.

This superior eye treatment is powered by the Schwind Amaris 1050RS, the fastest excimer laser technology today, and enhances not only distance and near visual acuity but also the patient’s range of clear vision. The following conditions can also be corrected at the same time with PresbyMAX: myopia (short-sightedness), hyperopia (long-sightedness), and astigmatism (irregular eye shape).

What PresbyMAX can correct

  • The near zone typically makes it possible to read without corrective lenses.
  • The intermediate zone favours good vision at medium distances (e.g at a computer workstation).
  • The distant zone provides good vision at greater distances.
  • The transition zone contributes to the stability of the treatment result.
Presbyopia, the condition PresbyMAX treats, is caused by the natural aging of the eye’s lens, leading to reduced flexibility and difficulty focusing on close objects. Symptoms include difficulty reading small print, needing to hold reading material at arm’s length, and blurred near vision.
PresbyMAX represents a significant advancement in the management of presbyopia, offering a personalized and effective solution for improving near vision and reducing the dependence on reading glasses.
PresbyMAX is a laser eye treatment designed to address presbyopia, the age-related loss of near vision. Utilizing advanced wavefront technology, it creates customized ablation profiles to enhance near and distance vision. The minimally invasive procedure offers quick recovery and reduces dependence on reading glasses.
  • Enhanced Near Vision: PresbyMAX is specifically designed to improve near vision, making it easier for individuals to read, use smartphones, and perform other close-up tasks without needing reading glasses or bifocals.
  • Customizable Treatment: The procedure can be tailored to each patient’s specific needs and vision requirements. By using advanced diagnostic tools, PresbyMAX can create a personalized treatment plan to address the unique vision profile of the patient.
  • Minimally Invasive: PresbyMAX is a non-invasive procedure performed using a laser, which means there is no need for surgical incisions. This typically results in a faster recovery and less discomfort compared to more invasive surgical options.
  • Quick Recovery: Most patients experience a rapid improvement in vision and a relatively quick recovery time. Many individuals notice enhanced vision within a few days, and normal activities can often be resumed shortly after the procedure.
  • Reduced Dependence on Glasses: By improving near vision, PresbyMAX helps reduce or eliminate the need for reading glasses or bifocals, offering greater convenience and freedom in daily life.
  • Wavefront Technology: PresbyMAX utilizes advanced wavefront technology to map the eye in detail. This allows for highly accurate treatment planning and correction of both presbyopia and any existing visual distortions or aberrations.
  • Custom Ablation Profiles: The procedure employs customized ablation profiles to address individual visual needs, which improves the precision of the treatment and enhances overall visual outcomes.
  • Blended Vision Approach: PresbyMAX often employs a technique called blended vision, where the laser treatment creates different focal points for near and distance vision. This approach helps balance vision at various distances, providing a more natural visual experience.
  • Enhanced Safety and Precision: Advances in laser technology and improved surgical techniques have increased the safety and precision of PresbyMAX. Modern lasers provide finer control and greater accuracy, reducing the risk of complications and enhancing the effectiveness of the treatment.
  • Integration with Other Technologies: PresbyMAX can be combined with other refractive procedures, such as LASIK or PRK, to address multiple vision issues simultaneously. This integrated approach allows for comprehensive treatment of both presbyopia and other refractive errors.

The goal of a PresbyMAX treatment is to achieve vision without glasses for day-to-day activities. In poor light, glasses can be advantageous for reading or seeing at a distance.
You can generally read without glasses again only a few hours after the treatment. Good intermediate and distant vision typically sets in within a week. Further improvement in quality of vision and full adjustment to multifocal sight are generally complete after several weeks.
Prior to your comprehensive eye screening, we advise patients to cease wearing contact lenses for several days before the procedure.
We use a bladeless all-laser treatment. First the femtosecond laser creates a microscopic ultra-thin flap in the surface of the cornea then the SCHWIND AMARIS 1050RS laser models the cornea. Each laser is activated for only a matter of seconds and the entire procedure takes only a few minutes.
The eye is completely numbed with the use of anesthetic drops and the procedure is totally painless.
After the treatment, we advise you to go home and rest for a few hours. Reading vision, intermediate vision and distance vision all return rapidly following the treatment such that the next day, most activities will be possible without glasses. However totally comfortable and natural visual results will continue to improve and adjust for several weeks following the treatment.
PresbyMAX is preferred by the patients between ages 45-49 and whose eyes are not suitable for corneal multifocal technique and because of not being able to lens Exchange because of having a transparent lens
