In partnership with the Department of Tourism, chosen students from the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health (ASMPH) had a two-day visit to both Shinagawa clinics (LASIK & Aesthetics and Diagnostic & Preventive Care) on June 24 and July 2.
Shinagawa showcased its medical competencies in both clinics, presenting its advanced eye correction treatments as well as its healthcare services to the touring students for them to have an idea of a path that they can likewise take as they keep going with their careers.
Those productive clinic tours are part of a specialized four-week elective designed for YL9 students from Ateneo. Given their unique dual-degree foundation (MD/MBA), this curriculum bypasses conventional tertiary hospital operations and exposes them directly to high-yield ambulatory setups, specialized longevity clinics, niche aesthetic models, premium medical wellness hubs, and the full range of Metro Manila’s growing medical tourism ecosystem.
The program is via the initiative of Department of Tourism Director Paulo Tumbang (Director IV – Office of Product Development.
The pedagogical focus is to treat the students as junior healthcare policy consultants. Every field trip and assignment is engineered to help them identify structural opportunities, model financial arbitrage, and build a cohesive ecosystem framework. The expanded four-week format deepens the original two-week design by adding a second layer of facility exposure in Weeks 1–2 and a richer upstream policy and governance track in Weeks 3–4, culminating in a strategic deliverable that directly formats primary market intelligence for the Program Director’s speakership at the World Health Expo (WHX) in Bangkok.
