Thread lifting has been practiced for over a decade and results have been variable. It is a minimally invasive procedure inserting barbed sutures into the skin providing a facelift effect and is capable of lifting to a certain extent the upper eyelids, cheeks, jowls, and neck.
Crucial to a highly effective thread lift is patient selection since not all patients are good candidates for this procedure. Patients between the ages of 35-45 years with LESS signs of facial aging (thinning and sagging skin and loss of volume) are better candidates than patients who have thin aging skin with drastic loss of fat tissue/volume loss. Having obesity is also not advised since this renders individual’s facial features as ‘heavy’, with results not being satisfactory or causing no effect at all.
This procedure should not be advised as a replacement to a facelift but it can be offered to patients who do not wish to undergo ‘cuts, nips, and tucks’. It is minimally invasive and has been coined as a “lunch-time or weekend face-lift’, with the procedure completed in 1-1.5 hours. Patients should also be willing to adhere to the post-operative instructions such as minimizing exaggerated facial expressions and movements, sleeping on the back, and doing less strenuous activities within 1-2 weeks.
All in all, patients who have been properly selected for this procedure have been highly satisfied with the results.
