Most Common Mistakes In Washing Your Face

The most common mistakes when it comes to washing your face can make or break your skincare routine and sabotage your complexion.

Your daily skincare starts with cleansing and cleansing correctly for your unique facial skin can make a huge difference that’s easy to notice.

Are you washing your face the right way?

Your complexion is not the same as everyone else’s. That’s because your complexion is the result of your unique choices and characteristics including where you live, what you do during your day, the products you use on your skin, your unique skin problems, and how oily or dry your skin is.

All these factors determine how you, and only you, should wash your face.

The most common mistakes people make when it comes to their face washing routines are:

  • Picking the wrong cleanser for their skin type
  • Using the wrong water temperature
  • Not washing product, dirt, and oil off twice a day
  • Using cleansers with unnecessary allergens and irritants
  • Forgetting to exfoliate

If you happen to be clueless about the proper skincare routine for you, that’s where we can help.

Possible Eye Diseases For Contact Lens Wearers | Shinagawa Blog

Possible Eye Diseases For Contact Lens Wearers

Contact lenses have a lot to offer someone with poor vision. And at such an affordable price, they seem like an attractive alternative to glasses with their strong points. In fact, here are the advantages of contact lenses:

  • You can’t snap or break them
  • They don’t fog up
  • You can wear them while exercising
  • You can buy them as and when you need them
  • They don’t require a large upfront investment

However, like any other quick-fix solution, they come with an equal number of weaknesses as well:

  • They are easily lost
  • They don’t perform well in extreme weather conditions
  • They can’t be worn for certain sports and activities like swimming
  • They require a certain level of care and maintenance
  • They can cause dry eyes and irritation
  • They cost more than LASIK over time

Some of these points may sound trivial to those who are new to wearing contact lenses and experiencing their benefits — particularly ex-glasses users. And it wouldn’t be too bad if that all their drawbacks. But the thing is, the list doesn’t end there.

Being a contact lens wearer is in some ways like being an ice road trucker. When nothing bad happens, it’s a good day. But when something does go wrong, it can be disastrous.

Unfortunately, due to the set guidelines that exist for wearing and looking after your lenses, it’s also not too difficult for things to go wrong. As a result, failure to store and clean them properly, wearing them for too long, or not replacing them when necessary, are all factors that can contribute to the long-term degradation of your vision.

If you’re ready to ditch the contacts, Shinagawa is the place to go for you. We are ready to give you a brighter vision with the best LASIK treatments in the country.

Random Facts About Skincare That You Should Know | Shinagawa Blog

Random Facts About Skincare That You Should Know

With so much true and false information about skincare available, it can be hard to keep any of it straight. To help you sort through the information, we want to help you understand some important facts related to skincare.

These skin facts will help you feel confident in your own skin care routine and/or treatment.

Dry skin is not prevented or treated by drinking water. If drinking water hydrated your skin from the inside out then taking a bath would quench your thirst from the outside in. Skin doesn’t work that way because it is a strong barrier. Dry skin is dry because the outer dead skin cell layer is damaged and can’t hold water.

What are the main causes of dry skin?

  • Damage to skin barrier lipids due to harsh soaps or contacts with solvents that strip lipids.
  • Excessive water loss from exposure to cold and harsh weather and dehumidified air.
  • Aging changes to skin structure that weaken the skin barrier.
  • Genetically inherited weakness in skin barrier such as atopic dermatitis type of eczema.

Acne is not caused by dirty skin.

Acne is the result of:

  • Changes in, and overproduction of, oil,
  • Clogging of pores,
  • Bacterial or yeast action, and
  • Inflammation.

Oil causes dead skin cells to stick together rather than slough out of the pores as they should. Washing your face often does not prevent this from happening and may actually aggravate your complexion by drying out your skin. Over-washing or scrubbing the skin too hard can irritate the skin and create openings for bacteria to infect acne, making it worse.

Sun damage can be caused even when you’re indoors
Being indoors does NOT protect you from the sun. UV rays come in two forms: UVA and UVB. UVB is blocked by windows, but UVA is not. UVA is the most important contributor to wrinkles, and UVB (and to a lesser degree UVA) is the most important contributor to skin cancer.

Protect yourself by wearing sunscreen even when indoors! Apply it every morning as you prepare for your day.

Blackheads are black because of oxidation, not dirt
Blackheads are also known as “open comedones.” Whiteheads, conversely are called “closed comedones." Both are caused by pores getting clogged with dead skin and sebum (oil). Blackheads appear black because the melanin pigment in the plug gets oxidized by oxygen (a chemical reaction) and the result is a dark color. Blackheads are not black because they are plugged with dirt!

Whiteheads are slightly deeper and often covered by a layer of skin so they do not have the same chance to get oxidized.
