LASIK for Your New Year’s Resolution

LASIK for Your New Year’s Resolution

For the New Year many want to improve or simplify their lives in the upcoming year. Many of these resolutions revolve around improving yourself through a healthier, more active lifestyle, spending more time with family or saving money.

The Benefits of LASIK

With the arrival 2024, New Year’s resolutions are in full swing. Laser eye surgery may be the answer to one or many of your resolutions. Imagine going for a run without your glasses bouncing around on your face or playing a sport and not having to worry about sweat or dirt irritating your contacts. LASIK may be able to help make this a reality, and in turn, may make achieving your health and fitness goals for 2024 easier and more enjoyable.

Another common New Year’s resolution is the desire to spend less money. If you wear glasses or contacts, you know what an expense they can be yearly, not to mention over longer periods of time. Did you know that LASIK eye surgery may be able to save you money? With LASIK prices becoming more and more affordable, the one-time cost of a laser eye surgery procedure can save you money over time versus a lifetime of glasses and contacts.

LASIK can help you achieve your other New Year’s Resolutions

Do you struggle with contacts? Are you tired of waking up to a blurry room? Would you like to be less dependent on eyeglasses? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then it may be time for you to consider LASIK eye surgery.

One of the major thoughts behind many New Year’s resolutions is a “new year, new you” mindset. What better way to achieve this than starting out the year with better vision? You might be worried that LASIK eye surgery has a lengthy and extensive recovery time, but this actually isn’t true. In fact, most people find recovery time to be very minimal, and most people are actually able to return to work and most normal activities within 2 days after their LASIK procedure.

If you think LASIK can help you achieve your resolutions in 2024, schedule a screening with us!

Fumiya Sankai: New Year, New Vision

Fumiya Sankai: New Year, New Vision

Being a multi-faceted Japanese artist is already fun in itself but Fumiya Sankai wanted to ease up his everyday grind.

Hence, having LASIK was the way to go after 14 long years of relying on contacts.

“I decided to proceed with LASIK at Shinagawa because I trusted its Japanese roots and technologies, making me feel comfortable. It was quick and amazing!” shared Fumiya.

It didn’t take long before he saw the life-changing difference.

“I just had a three-hour nap after the procedure and when I woke up, everything’s clear already!”

Fumiya went on to share that he’s been using contact lenses for more than a decade before figuring enough is enough.

“I’ve spent lots of money for contact lenses for the last 14 years and it wasn’t ideal and good, aside from being inconvenient.”

“This was a best decision for me to have a new vision for the New Year!”

How ’bout a new vision for the New Year for you as well?

Start your 2024 with a Skin Screening

Start your 2024 with a Skin Screening

Most likely, you’ve probably started off the New Year with a long to-do list. Whether that included a list of skincare resolutions or you simply wanted to focus more time on your overall health, a strong to-do list can help you get on the right track toward a happier, healthier life.

As you organize your calendar this year, we encourage you to take a moment to pencil in a check-in with your dermatologist — and here’s why:

Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is statistically one of the most common forms of cancer in the world. Chances are, you or someone you know, has dealt with some form of skin cancer at some point in your life.

Fortunately, skin cancer is one of the most preventable forms of cancer and is highly treatable. The key is early detection.

According to consensus dermatology studies, the average survival rate for individuals whose melanoma is detected and treated before it spreads to the lymph nodes is 98 percent. 98 percent! That’s an extremely comforting statistic.

The only issue is that a lot of times, individuals don’t take the time to schedule an annual skin cancer screening or they simply aren’t aware of what to look for.

Things to do for your Skin

One of the best things you can do for your skin — and yourself — is to schedule regular, annual skin cancer screenings.

At the very least, you should be keeping an eye out for any skin abnormalities that may appear on your body. Keep your ABCDE’s in mind and if you have any questions about a particular skin abnormality, consult with our dermatologist immediately.

The sooner you can detect and treat skin cancer, the better.

We at Shinagawa Aesthetics encourage you to schedule an appointment with one of our board-certified dermatologists today. After all, it could end up saving your life.

Achieving your Eye Goals for 2024

Achieving your Eye Goals for 2024

Leap into 2024 with a healthy mindset!

The New Year is a time to start fresh and renew our commitment to health, happiness, and success. It’s important to include eye health and safety in these resolutions.

Take a look at some ways and tips that can help you take care of your eyes better this year.

Schedule an eye exam

A comprehensive eye exam will ensure that your vision is at its best, and we will also screen for any eye disease or issues with your eye health. Early detection is essential for the treatment and preservation of eyesight.

Know your eye health risk factors

Knowing who is at risk and catching the signs early are essential to preventing common vision-threatening diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, or diabetic retinopathy. Knowing your family history, race, gender, and lifestyle and how those factors can contribute to eye diseases can help your eye doctor keep a close eye on any signs of eye disease before it is too late.

Protect your eyes from the sun

Harmful UV and HEV (high-energy visible) radiation from the sun, and potentially from computer screens and digital devices, have been linked to severe eye conditions, including macular degeneration, cataracts, and non-cancerous and cancerous growths in the eye and eyelids. Wear sunglasses that are 100% protective of these harmful rays outdoors. Indoor clear lens coatings are now available to protect from HEV light.

Add eye-healthy foods to your regular diet

Foods rich in vitamins and antioxidants play an essential role in the health of your eyes. Research shows that a proper diet can reduce the risk of macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma, and other eye problems. Include foods to your plate that are rich in beta carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin (such as spinach, kale, red/orange peppers, carrots, sweet potatoes, and butternut squash), bioflavonoids (such as tea, red wine, citric fruits, blueberries, cherries, legumes, soy products), Omega-3 Fatty Acids (cold-water fish, ground flaxseeds, walnuts) and fruits, vegetables and other foods rich in vitamins A, C and D. Zinc is also linked to eye health and found in foods such as oysters, beef and dark meat.

First things first for 2024, schedule an eye check and set your vision for the year ahead!
